Hip Replacement Surgery in India

Hip replacement surgery also known as hip arthroplasty is a procedure in which the damaged hip joint is surgically replaced with the use of prosthetics, usually made of plastic or metal component. The prosthetics often consists of the following three parts-

• A stem that adjusts in the thigh bone
• A ball that is placed in the stem
• A cup that is placed in the socket of the hip joint

Hip joint is like any other joint and is subject to “wear and tear” with time either due to arthritis or some major injury. Hip replacement surgery is only performed when the joint pain cannot be relieved anymore with the use of non-surgical treatments and medications.

There are two types of hip replacement surgery- one that involves only the replacement of one hip joint and the other one that requires replacement of both the hip joints and is also known as bilateral hip replacement surgery.
